Disappointment turned to delight when Warboys Under 15s lifted the Hunts League Cup last week.

They beat Kimbolton Town 3-1 in a showpiece clash, played at Jubilee Park in Huntingdon, to end a tough campaign on a high.

Warboys’ defence of the Division A title didn’t go to plan as they finished third-bottom, but they signed off by filling in the gap in an honours collection which has previously featured league and Hunts Cup silverware.

“It was a disappointing season on the whole, but losing players last summer had a big effect,” said boss Chris Whitfield. “Winning this trophy for the first time was a nice way to finish and we’re looking to add to the squad for next season.”

A deflected Charlie Gray effort put Warboys ahead in the first half of the final, but they were pegged back by a smart Henry Langley strike for Kimbolton in the opening minute of the second period. Warboys clinched victory with two goals in the final 10 minutes. Ewan Young fired them back ahead before Mitchell Simons coolly completed the scoring.
