Huntingdon Town 3 Thrapston Town 1

DARREN Young praised his side's resilience as Huntingdon came from a goal behind at the break to hand him his first win in charge.

Young took over from Paul Swannell at Jubilee Park in the summer, bringing with him almost an entirely new squad.

Despite the new faces, it was a player from last year, Alyou Coaney, who proved the match-winner, scoring twice in the final 15 minutes to seal the win.

A physical Thrapston side matched the home side in the first half, but conceded a penalty towards the end of the first period.

Town's Richard Moore was hacked down on his way to goal but Lee Garvie, who joined from Desborough in the summer, saw his spot-kick turned away.

Insult turned to injury for the hosts when Paul Norton gave Thrapston the lead on the stroke of half-time.

Town remained patient as they searched for an equaliser, though Young changed formation to 3-4-3 as he looked to get off to a winning start.

Finally, Coaney squared the game on 75 minutes when he turned in a set-piece and substitute Danny White gave his side the lead on 80 minutes, rounding off an excellent passing move.

With Thrapston pushing forward, Coaney settled the game as full-time approached, rounding the goalkeeper to clinch a 3-1 win.

Delighted manager Young said: "Thrapston came to intimidate us but the performance was solid.

"I was pleased to see every member of the team celebrating every goal. Some people claim bringing players in from outside the local area means they are not as passionate but I don't think that is the case with this group.

"There is still the opportunity for young local players to play - our 17-year-old right back Jordan Goult is a perfect example."

Huntingdon travel to Burton Park Wanderers on Saturday.
