St Neots & District chess club's B team travelled to Peterborough to play Perkins Knights but came away on the end of a 3-1 reverse.
Miles Barker's victory was the team's sole success on the night.
The B team are on their travels again next week when they make the journey to Buckden on Wednesday 17, hoping to go one better than the draw on the opening day of the season.
Meanwhile, the A team are in action as they prepare for a busy January which sees them travel to Warboys, Buckden and the Fenland Cup final.
