Ramsey are out to rule supreme again in Tucker Gardner Division One.

The new season gets under way on Saturday and captain Taylor West is hopeful his team can make a successful defence of the title they secured last summer.

Ramsey pipped Godmanchester to top spot and West expects both local clubs to again be at the forefront of the race for honours.

West said: “We are very keen to defend our title and the mood in the club is very good.

“I think the title will probabl;y be between ourselves, Godmanchester and Foxton.”

Aussie Trent Goers has returned for a second successive summer at Cricketfield Lane and he will be joined by countryman and fellow spinner Joe Barningham, who holds a British passport.

And the Ramsey attack will also be boosted by the return of Olly Verrall after a couple of years out of the game due to injury.

But high-scoring batsman David Clarke has departed after one season. He has moved back to previous club Peterborough Town.

This summer Ramsey would love to go one better than they managed in 2014 by reaching the East Anglian Premier League (EAPL).

Ramsey suffered play-off heartache for the second time in three years when losing out to Two Counties Championship side Frinton back in September.

West added: “The ultimate aim is to get into the EAPL and hopefully we can have another good crack at doing it this year.”

Star overseas player Kiran Adhav is the only departure of note from Godmanchester. The Indian spinner was the star turn in Division One with the ball last summer.

But there are plenty of recruits including South African batsman Karabo Mogotsi and Portuguese international Tariq Aziz, a batsman and spinner who has arrived from Division One rivals Nassington. Army wicket keeper Ravi Gilbert has also joined.

All-rounder Simon Rose, who has played Minor Counties cricket for Wiltshire, returns along with Bevis Moynan, who has been at St Ives.

Warboys have also drafted in an overseas player. They hope Aussie ace Simon Walshe will provide the solution to the batting problems which affected them last season.

Waresley also feature in Division One.
