ST Neots amateur Mark Catling will partner PGA professional Paul Toyer in the Club's bid to win Europe's biggest pro-am competition, the Lombard Trophy. Catling, who plays off a handicap of 14, earned the chance to play with Toyer after winning the Club qualifying competition with a net score of 70 last month. The pair will now compete in the regional final at King's Lynn Golf Club, which will follow a better-ball medal play format. If they are succesful, Catling and Toyer will join the winners of the 15 other regional finals for the Grand Final in Portugal in September. The winning pair will receive £10,000 from a prize fund of over £80,00. Results Cambs and Hunts Ladies Golf Association ANN Mitchell claimed victory at the Division Two meeting of the Cambs and Hunts Ladies Golf Association held at Ely. Mitchell recorded a gross score of 96 to win, with her net score of 73 also securing her the Audrey Nicole Trophy. Tina Forbes won the first net prize with a score of 75. Abbotsley Golf Club Ladies' Section VAL Tyler won the mid-week stableford competition with 36 points, Valerie Cooper took second place with 32 points on count back, with third going to Betty Everett, who also scored 32 points. SEVEN Club members travelled to Saffron Walden last week to contest the Jean Wilkinson Match. Despite the heavy showers, Abbotsley played well to take the win 8-6. LADY Captain Heather Davidson shot a net score of 79 to win the Medal Winners Cup on Saturday in difficult conditions. Nine other ladies competed in the event, with Anne Chandler shooting net 80 to come second. Men's Section THE Club entertained Ely Golf Club last Tuesday, with the match ending in a draw. Neither the Captain, the Vice Captain nor their respective playing partners could get the advantage, scoring no points in the end. St Ives Golf Club THE President's Putter, an 18-hole stroke play competition, was won by Lol Lewis, who shot a net socre of 74. Trish Williams was runner-up on a count back whilst Rita Miles was third. Mrs Diana Cooke, the first Lady President of St Ives Golf Club, presented the trophy. Fenland Golf Society DAVE Salters shot 75 to take victory in the May Medal at the Rutland County Golf Club. Salters was closely followed by George Brennan, who came second with 76 on count back, and Richard Hickford, who also shot 76 to come third. Grant Osbourn won the longest drive competition, whilst Martin Storey won the nearest the pin contest. Wyboston Lakes Golf Club JUNIOR Club member Pravir Liddar took victory in the Men's May Saturday Medal at the weekend. Liddar, whose handicap has improved from 21 to nine since February, shot a net score of 65 in the wet to take the title. Sid Fuller was runner-up with net 68 and Paul Fry was third with net 70. Playing with Paul Myhill, Darryl Doggett and Fred Ifill, Fuller went one better in the Super Texas Scramble. Their score of 56.1 put them first, with Steve Smith, Mark Bird, and Spooner and Craig Sutherland coming in second with 56.9. Third went to Bob Hedges, Jamie McFee, Paul Simm and Rod Rowland with 57.2. Ramsey Golf Club BABS Willis took the Ladies Bogey Cup title last Thursday with a score of plus six. Judy Freeman was the runner up with a socre of plus one. St Neots Golf Club ROSEMARY Farrow won the Ladies Club Championship at the weekend for the 20th time in her career. Farrow shot 157 gross over 36 holes in awful weather to take the title. Helen Gillett's 170 was enough for her to take second. VICKY Kyle won the Handicap Trophy with 141 net, closely followed by Farrow, who shot 145. THE Centenary Plate went to Natalie LaPare and Jenny Lea, who shot a score of 74 net. LAST Wednesday, the Ladies held their invitation day. Val Knowles and Cathy Morris took first prize with a score of 37 points. Julie Button and Cath Cowcill came in close behind with 35 points to finish runners-up.
