PLAYER OF THE SEASON: Eaton Socon teenage batsman Jon Carpenter has been named the Hunts Post player of the season for 2008. Pictured here collecting his monthly award for May, the judges, in association with Hunts County Bats, decided that Carpenter's consistent form made him the clear winner. The panel said: "Jon has consistently doing the business week in, week out at both club and county level - with the bat and the ball." Carpenter has scored more than 1,000 runs for his club and 544 for the county and also claimed more than 60 wickets at club level and 23 for his county. Jon, who will play for Cambridge Granta on Saturdays next season, thanked Eaton Socon for the opportunity to develop his game and offered special praise to coach Chris McKay. Meanwhile, the final week of the cricket season saw weather conditions more akin to mid July with teams enjoying good conditions for the whole weekend. Upwood II crashed to a big defeat in Hunts Division 3 against a strong Nassington III. The home side amassed 240-4 with few problems and Upwood were then dismissed for just 74. Warboys II visited Castor in Division 4 and pulled off a great five-wicket win. Alex Grange (3-20) and Ryan Humphrey (3-33) made Castor struggle to 163-9 before Charles Smith (39) and Daniel Hyde (37) punished the bowling to see Warboys to 164-5. Eaton Socon III made sure of some fun in the sun with a five wicket win over Orton Park. Visitors Orton were shot out for 103 and Socon had little problems in getting to 104-5. Socon II suffered a defeat in Rutland Division 7 to Ufford Park. Socon's 125 all out was never likely to be enough and Ufford steamed home in the sun at 126-4.
