Godmanchester Rovers climbed into second place in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division after producing a performance of two halves last Saturday.

Boss Ollie Drake saw his side veer from dismal to delightful as they wiped out a two-goal deficit at half-time to triumph 4-2 at Hadleigh.

Buster Harradine launched the Rovers revival before three goals in the final 12 minutes earned victory.

Captain Micky Hyem levelled from a corner before completing the turnaround when striking again after being released by a Harradine flick - the second successive match in which he has scored twice.

And Matt Allan then made sure of the points when putting away a fine Tom Spark cross to leave Rovers chief Drake with mixed emotions.

He said: “We were horrific in the first half and the attitudes of the players were awful, but it was a different story after the break.

“We were so dominant that I don’t think Hadleigh made it into our box in the whole of the second half.

“We threw everything at them, we changed our shape and we were rewarded with a hell of a comeback.

“To score three times late on to turn the game round and pick up three points was incredible.

“I can’t pretend I’m not disappointed with how we performed in the first half, but I’m absolutely delighted with what we produced in the second half.”

Rovers could be pushed back down to third spot tonight (Wednesday) if fellow title hopefuls Histon triumph at Long Melford, but they are within three points of leaders Stowmarket Town – a team they beat courtesy of another late comeback the previous weekend.

Rovers will chase a third consecutive Premier Division victory this Saturday when travelling to Woodbridge.

The Suffolk side, who won the First Division title last term, lost their opening three league matches of the new campaign before opening their account with a 1-0 win at Wroxham last weekend.

And Drake was quick to insist they cannot be taken lightly. He added: “Woodbridge is always a tough place to go and they have a decent side by all accounts.

“It’s a game where we will have to be at our best for 90 minutes to get a result.”
