Huntingdon United manager Lee Milton has saluted his table-topping players for completing a perfect 10 in the Cambs League.

The Division 1B table-toppers extended their winning run into double-figures with a 2-1 triumph at Chatteris Town Reserves last Saturday.

Dom Everett and Joe Bennett hit first-half goals before United stood firm after the hosts halved their arrears late on.

Milton said: “It has been an absolutely superb effort from everyone involved. The attitude has been spot-on all season and the performances have also been very impressive.

“The job is still far from done and there is no way I will let any feet come off the pedal.

“We prepare properly for every game and strive to do the right things all of the time.

“Teams are raising their game against us in a bid to knock us off our perch and that adds to the pressure, but the boys have dealt with it so far and hopefully that will continue.”

Another local team ended a perfect record last Saturday. Houghton & Wyton Reserves beat an Outwell Swifts second string, who had won all 10 previous games this term, in Division 5B.

David Hall struck twice and Craig Turner also found the net in a 3-1 success for a team enjoying a fine debut season.

Houghton & Wyton Reserves sit third in a division when two other local sides occupy the top two places.

Huntingdon United Reserves, also in their first campaign, are in pole position after a 2-1 success against AFC Christchurch last Saturday which featured goals from Connor Gordon and Kieran Price.

They lead the way from Needingworth United Reserves - who have played three more matches - thanks to a superior goal difference.

The Needingworth lads are in fine form themselves as a 7-3 victory at Marchester United, which included a four-goal haul from the prolific James Hodson, highlighted.

But it was nowhere near as good a day for the Needingworth first team who saw two Kershaw Senior B Division points slip from their grasp when having to settle for a 4-4 draw against Whittlesford United.

A Scott Fielding hat-trick and a Ben Carter strike eased the locals into a 4-1 advantage, but they lost goalkeeper Steve Large to injury with frontman James Clark having to step in between the sticks.

And he was beaten three times in the closing stages as what looked to be a convincing victory turned into a disappointing draw.

Buckden picked up another valuable point in their survival battle at that level. Darren Scutt, James Wou and Adam Wright hit the goals for the locals in a 3-3 draw at Sawston Rovers.

And Godmanchester Rovers Reserves climbed into the top six with a 4-2 triumph at lowly Lakenheath Reserves. Samuel Brooks found the net twice as Mark Darlow and Will Greatorex also struck in a second successive win for Richard Cosbey’s side.

Bottom side Great Paxton have only managed one win all season in Kershaw Senior A Division, but they suffered a third defeat of the campaign by a double-figure margin last Saturday when going down 10-0 to Comberton United.

Somersham are faring better at that level - largely thanks to the goals of Justin Ives. Their leading scorer took his tally to 17 in just 15 appearances this term with a brace in their 2-2 draw at Orwell.

Eaton Socon collected a valuable point in their Kershaw Premier Division honours chase.

Mark Spavins’ second-placed side drew 1-1 at fellow title hopefuls Hardwick, who sit in third.

Socon hit the front when Neil Morris’ eighth minute corner eluded everyone in a packed penalty area to go straight in.

They thought they had doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time only for the officials to rule a Shane Fox shot had not crossed the line.

Socon were eventually pegged back in the final quarter of an hour when hosts Hardwick levelled courtesy of their top-scorer, Dan Heron.

But they responded well with Ben Wilks failing to take a good opportunity before Josh Spavins became the second Socon man to see an effort not given as his header appeared to cross the line.

Brampton climbed into fifth spot as a Martin Turner brace and a Matt Gearing strike earned a 3-1 success at West Wratting.

Struggling Hemingfords United went down by the same scoreline at leaders Great Shelford.
