AFC Barley Mow player-boss Sean Sweeney has challenged his side to make things interesting in the Cambs League Division 2B title race.
The Huntingdon lads are firmly on course for a second successive promotion as they sit in second place in the standings.
They are a dozen points behind unbeaten leaders Little Downham Swifts with two matches in hand – and they travel to face the table-toppers this Saturday.
Sweeney said: “Going up again was the goal for this season and we’ve got ourselves into a great position to do that.
“It would be brilliant to win another title and we’ll need to get a result at Little Downham to have any chance of catching them.
“It won’t be easy as we’re without both of our centre-backs – Chris Newman could be out injured for the rest of the season and Luke Gove is away – but we’ll give it our best shot. A win would set up an interesting chase.”
Little Downham have only failed to win one of their 16 league games so far - that was last month when held to a 2-2 draw by another local side, Ramsey Pavilion.
The Barley boys beat Wimblington 5-2 last weekend when Josh Turner hit a brace to reach 150 goals for the club. He has reached the milestone in just 80 appearances in Saturday and Sunday football.
Bruce Phillips marked his first start of 2017 by finding the net, while brothers Jake and Tom Peattie were also on target.
Ten-man Brampton Reserves drew 1-1 at Ely Crusaders in that division. Omar Marsh hit their goal and Jonny Bannister was sent off.
While AFC Barley Mow hope to be leaving Division 2B behind after only one season, Offord United could be climbing into that section for 2017/18.
They stepped up their Division 3B promotion challenge with a 2-1 success at Cottenham United Reserves last Saturday which lifted them into second place. Ben Colborne and Rhys Walton hit the goals.
Alconbury Reserves boosted their survival prospects at that level with a stunning success against table-topping Tuddenham ‘08.
They struck twice in the final minute to complete a fine comeback which earned a 3-2 victory against the leaders, who had won all 12 previous league games. The Alconbury side conceded twice early on, but halved their arrears before half-time through Josh Kaoszi.
That’s the way it stayed until the late drama as Will Kent levelle before Jamie Clark lobbed in a fine winner.
