It’s one down and six to go for Eaton Socon.

Manager Mark Spavins has given his Kershaw Premier Division title-chasers a target of seven successive victories - and they set the ball rolling by easing past Sawston United last Saturday.

Michael Banbury’s early opener was followed by a second-half double from Ben Wilks in a 3-0 success. Andy Wale pulled off a late penalty save to preserve a clean sheet.

It was enough to launch them into second spot in the Cambs League top-flight, six points behind table-topping title favourites Great Shelford.

Spavins said: “I told the lads before the game last Saturday that I wanted the maximum 21 points from our next seven matches and they have picked up the first three.

“We’ve had three or four draws which put the skids under us a little bit, but we were back on song and played well against Sawston.

“The unbeaten run is terrific and the fact it has been achieved by what is a new team for this season makes it even more impressive.

“There is no doubt in my mind we are punching above our weight, but we’re determined to keep doing it.

“Finishing in the top five had been our target, but we’ll be disappointed if we can’t now make the top three.

“We have a great bunch of lads who are getting their rewards for working and training hard.

“Great Shelford are a good side, but they’ve lost their leading scorer for the rest of the season and have a tougher run-in than we do.

“We’ll do everything we can to catch them and picking up the seven wins we want from this block of games could make things interesting.

“The whole club is buzzing with the Reserves and the ‘A’ team both chasing promotion.”

Brampton continued their fine form by climbing into the top half of the table courtesy of a third successive victory.

Danny Cain, Ellis Ogle and Nick Garner found the net in a 3-0 triumph over Linton Granta.

It is the first time Wayne Ambler’s men have reeled off three wins in a row for four years.

Bottom side Hemingfords are four points from safety after a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Lakenheath.
