Brampton boss Wayne Ambler believes his side’s defensive solidity is the reason behind their fine form.

Ambler’s aces kept a second successive clean sheet as they collected a fourth Kershaw Premier Division victory in a row last Saturday.

First-half goals from Danny Cain and Ellis Ogle secured the points in a 2-0 victory at Over Sports.

“We’re becoming much harder to beat,” said Ambler. “At the start of the season we were letting some really sloppy goals in, whereas now we’ve really tightened up defensively.”

“Our all-round performances have been really good and the players have all worked hard for each other.”

Cain’s strike was his 20th of a fine first season with Brampton. The striker has already exceeded his manager’s expectations.

Ambler added: “When he joined us, I said that he had to score at least 18 goals, so he’s already smashed that target.

“His hold-up play was really good on Saturday and he took his goal very well. It was a great finish.”

Brampton take a break from league action this Saturday as they face table-toppers Great Shelford in a Knockout Cup semi-final.

And Ambler says his men have nothing to lose in the clash at the Memorial Playing Field.

“It will be a very tough game against Great Shelford,” he continued. “But we haven’t lost in four games and we’ve got nothing to lose. It’s a free hit to be honest.”

Title-chasing Eaton Socon stretched their fantastic unbeaten Premier Division run to 14 games with a 2-0 success against Fowlmere last Saturday.

Debutant Mayson Byatt headed their opener before Ryan Whittingham struck late in the second half to secure the win for the Eagles, who remain six points behind leaders Great Shelford having played two more matches.

Hemingfords United are still rooted to the bottom of the table after they were beaten 3-0 by Foxton. They’re six points from safety.
