Final pair Alex Green (22no) and Wayne Bradley (13no) steered them to a one-wicket success at March in Whiting & Partners Division One with a 35-run last stand.

Former Leicestershire star James Sykes took 3-4 as Godmanchester dismissed their hosts for 104 on a day when spin bowling did the majority of the damage. Bradley and Amir Gupta also bagged a couple of wickets apiece.

But they found themselves in dire trouble after seeing nine wickets fall for just 42 runs – slumping from 28-0 to 70-9 as March spinner Shardul Brahmbhatt claimed a five-wicket haul - before their final pair saved the day and secured a second successive victory this term.

Eaton Socon have also started well and dished out a 178-run derby drubbing to Waresley yesterday.

Captain Jonny Carpenter led the way with 86 as the hosts piled up 246 before blitzing their visitors for just 68.

Wade Lezar (58) also hit a half-century for Eaton Socon before their fearsome bowling attack – spearheaded by Ben Gowling (4-17) and Joe Dawborn (3-21) – finished the job with the minimum of fuss.

Newly-promoted Kimbolton’s tough introduction to top-flight cricket continued in a nine-wicket reverse at Saffron Walden.

Lee Ingram top-scored with 26 as the locals were removed for just 94. Only two other batsmen – captain Jason Redinger and Chris Gilthorpe – reached double figures.

It was a dismal day for the two local teams in Whiting & Partners Division Two.

St Ives were crushed by 249 runs at Cambridge Granta 2nds – falling for just 101 after being powerless to prevent their hosts from piling up an astonishing 350-5.

And Huntingdon & District saw their wait for a win continue when brushed aside by six wickets by Thirplow. The hosts were dismissed for just 55 at St Peters Road.
