RICKY Ashwell made it five wins in a row with another victory at Cromwell Lake on Saturday.

Drawn on peg 30, Ashwell caught 50lb 14oz of bream, carp and tench to finish ahead of series leader Brian Gibson who took 41lb 12oz from peg 11.

James and Steve Drakulic finished third and fourth. Derek Millward was pleased to catch a 16lb carp from peg 13, his best ever.

WEDNESDAY SERIES

Stan Binge had chances to win the match on Wednesday evening but lost several fish in the reeds to leave Ricky Ashwell in top spot with 41lb from peg 35.

Binge weighed in 27lb 6oz, just two ounces ahead of third-placed Jason Roslyn with Brian Gibson fourth.

GRAHAM’S POND

SATURDAY’S King of the Pond Qualifier saw a successful return to fishing for Terry Kelly after almost two years.

Although he lost two big carp, Kelly put together 14lb 4oz of mostly silver fish to finish two ounces ahead of Tony Watling with Bob Stobart third.

RESULT: 1. Terry Kelly 14lb 4oz, 2. TonyWatling 14lb 2oz, 3. Bob Stobart 11lb 8oz.

PLUMB-IT CHALLENGE

SUNDAY’S Plumb-It semi-final saw a contest between previous winners Wagon & Horses B and Kings Arms B.

The outcome was in doubt throughout the day with the advantage swinging from team to team. Eventually it was the Wagon & Horses B who were the winners with a total of 17lb 13oz, beating the 16lb of Kings Arms B. They will face the Kings Arms A in next Sunday’s final.

SCOUT FISHING MATCH

THE Cambs County and District Scout fishing match was held on Jay Lake at Pidley on Saturday.

The match was won by Tom Whincup, son of Fox Match Stanjay’s Roy who showed his dad how it is done with an impressive 17lb 9oz of small carp caught on maggot and pellet. Martin Day was second and William Field third.

Thanks to Rookery Farm for the water and Kevin Loakes for organising the day and coaching the youngsters.

HEADFEN LAKES

FRIDAY’S open match on Snake Lake was won by Andy Kleen from Cambridge with 128lb 2oz, less than two pounds ahead of Marcus Bailey.
