MICHAEL Cafferkey is the 2010 Hunts Post Player of the Year.
Cafferkey won the award, sponsored by Hunts County Bats, after turning in big scores for both Huntingdonshire at county level and for his club side Godmanchester in their fight to regain their East Anglian Premier League status.
However, he will have to wait to collect his award as he is currently in Australia playing for the The Jets Northern District team. He told The Hunts Post: “I’ve had a fantastic season – the runs never really dried up and even in county games the ball seemed as big as a football. The only disappointment is that we just missed out at Godmanchester to secure promotion.”
For the record books, Cafferkey’s county record at both U25 and senior will take some beating.
Scores of 54, 89, two innings of 111 and a massive 169 gave Cafferkey an average of 106.8 in the U25 season, while at senior level 348 runs from six games took him to the top of the averages at 58.
