Huntingdon bowler Nicky Brett cruised into the quarter-finals of the World Indoor Championships last night.

The world number one, who plays out of Huntingdon IBC, beat qualifier James Rippey 12-3, 8-4 in straight sets in the opening round at the Potters Resort in Hopton-on-Sea.

Brett, who is second seed, now meets Les Gillett in the last eight on Thursday as he continues his bid for a first-ever world title.

Brett, and partner Alison Merrien of Guernsey, were beaten in the semi-finals of the Mixed Pairs event on Sunday by the Scottish duo of Alex Marshall and Julie Forrest.
