Division One National
BRAMPTON, fishing their first top division event, finished 37th out of 65 on the Erewash Canal near Nottingham on Saturday.
They had predominantly the same small squad which had seen them promoted through the divisions.
This was five places above the Stanjay team and six above Essex Van Den Eynde.
The venue was very weedy and pegs varied tremendously within the sections.
Highlight of a solid team performance was Chris Saunders' fifth place in section courtesy of a bream which he hooked on light tackle just before the final whistle and successfully played and netted.
The run up to the match had not been smooth with one team member injured and another only managing to get a flight out of Alicante airport on Friday after waiting many hours.
Half of the team finished in the top 25 places in their sections, providing a solid cushion for the inevitable poorer results on such a 'peggy' venue.
Peterborough-based Wades Match Group put in a tremendous team performance to finish seventh overall.
Stanjay were disappointed with their placing, the better results still not good enough to compensate for three sets of very low points.
Mark One finished 17th, the RAF 22nd, Browning Hotrods 25th, and Peterborough 48th.
The only name from the area in the top twenty individuals was Graham Welton, fishing for the RAF, who was 17th.
With most of the regulars absent at the National, there was a sweepstake at Cromwell on Saturday.
Ricky Ashwell, with 91lb 7oz from peg 9, won the match and broke the lake match record by a long way.
Vince Hull was second with 34lb and Keith Ellington third with 26lb.
RESULT: 1 Ricky Ashwell St Neots 91lb 7oz, 2 Vince Hull 34lb, 3 Keith Ellington 26lb
Nene Summer League

Individually the winner was Pete Goodman from peg 248 with second and third places coming from pegs 244 and 246. The final match is this Sunday at Orton.

In view of the wet and windy weather, Sunday's match was moved to Ramsey Narrows. Andrew Kilby was the winner with 12lb 12oz which included four tench.
Duncan Folkes in second place caught a 4lb bream in his 5lb 10oz.
RESULT: 1 Andrew Kilby 12lb 12oz, 2 Duncan Folkes 5lb 10oz, 3 Paul Kilby 4lb 1oz
The final round of the Twilight series gave Paul Irons a one point win over Chris Saunders.
The match was fished in windy conditions making presentation very difficult. Paul caught hybrids, roach and bleak on a 5m whip while second and third Dave Silsby and Chris Saunders both caught on the long pole.
The extra half ounce which gave Dave second place was vital to the final result.
RESULT: 1 Paul Irons 3lb 15oz, 2 Dave Silsby 2lb 1 1/2 oz, 3 Chris Saunders 2lb 1oz Series: 1 Paul Irons 39pts, 2 Chris Saunders 38pts
Sunday's match saw a win for Steve Webb with a mixed bag of fish for 8lb.
The result of last week's match was reported incorrectly.
In third place and qualifying for King of the Pond was Bob Nichols not Steve Webb.
