St Ives Boxing Academy chief Steve Whitwell believes his daughter, Harli, has punched her way into England contention.

The 15 year-old collected her second major success in a matter of weeks when winning the National Association of Boys & Girls Clubs (NABGC) crown last Saturday.

She beat Alana Atkins of Chadwell ABC in the final of the Under 63kg class in Portsmouth when overcoming a slow start to force a second-round stoppage.

Proud father Steve said: "Not only was this Harli's second title of the season, but it came courtesy of her second stoppage win.

"She does sometimes leave it a bit late, which is something she needs to work on, but her boxing is good and her strength is phenomenal. It is hard to see any girls who can stand up to her power.

"I think it is only a matter of time before she gets her England selection and hopefully a regular place in the England team going by this performance."

The St Ivo School pupil will attempt to complete an impressive hat-trick when fighting in the Junior ABA Championships in April.

Harli's older sister, Shona, is already a regular England international.
