Bradley Smith followed up his latest success in style - by flying out of the country of the opponent he stopped in two rounds.

The St Ives star extended his unbeaten record to seven professional fights by outclassing Hungarian rival Jozsef Takacs at the York Hall, in London, last Saturday night.

The referee stepped in to halt the fight following a fierce flurry of punches from Smith. It ensures the 20 year-old has plenty to celebrate during a break in Budapest.

“That fight could have been a banana-skin, but I’m very pleased with how I performed,” said Smith.

“I hadn’t felt great during my training camp ahead of the fight, but everything went perfectly on the day.

“I felt good on the scales, I was sharp in the warm-up and I showed that I have the power to hurt someone who usually fights at light middleweight.

“I was too focused on knocking him out in the first round and it was the same in the start of the second round.

“But the guys in my corner shouted at me to start boxing more and as soon as I did that I got rid of him.

“I caught him sweet with a right hook that buckled his legs in the middle of the ring. He held on and I landed a flurry of four more big punches and caught him again as he tried to get away.

“But I landed again and then the ref stepped in. I was hoping I could throw one more shot for a highlight reel finish, but the main thing is getting another victory on my record.”

Smith will spend the next few weeks recharging his batteries ahead of a likely November return to the ring.

And, after a smooth start to life in the paid ranks, he now hopes to test himself against better opposition in future fights.

He added: “I’m having a complete rest for three weeks before gradually building myself back up for a fight towards the end of the year.

“I’ve been flat-out for more than a year and need the break, and the performance on Saturday means I can enjoy it.

“But I know there is still a lot to work on. A lot of people would be delighted with a second-round stoppage, but I’m my biggest critic and know I could have got him out of there in the first round.

“I can’t be too hard on myself, though. Things have gone well so far and I feel I’m ready to step up.”
