TWO CAMPOL fighters made the trek to St Hellier to compete for the Police Community Clubs of Great Britain against a Jersey Select. Will John and Ross Hellery were accompanied by headcoach Mick Taylor last weekend as they took on the cream of Jersey's boxing community. John, 16, took on Patrick Bailey and, in an enthralling encounter, punctuated by powerful left hand shots, the CAMPOL man was slightly unfortunate to be on the losing side. "Apart from the first round where the pair were swapping blows, Will controlled the contest," said Taylor. "In the second and third round, Will followed the instructions we had given him to the letter and kept landing powerful left hand blows. Bailey looked as if he could have collapsed in a heap at any moment. I just couldn't believe it when the judges awarded him the majority decision." Hellery, 14, was matched against Stephen Poole but, despite throwing lots of good punches and solid combinations, the Jersey fighter was awarded the bout. While there was limited success for the CAMPOL pair, the team managed to beat the Jersey Select, winning 5-4 on the night.
