Nicky Brett saw the defence of his World Indoor Championships singles title ended by a comprehensive quarter-final defeat this afternoon.

The Huntingdon IBC man was beaten 10-5, 10-2 by Scottish opponent Stewart Anderson at the Potters Resort, Hopton-on-Sea.

Brett admitted: “Stewart was great. He got in early and I found myself chasing shots.

“There were one or two things that didn't quite go my way, and I would have liked to have played a bit better myself, but Stewart didn't really let me.”

Brett, who works at RAF Wyton, is world number one and was top seed to defend his title.

He saw off qualifiers Andrew Kyle and Charles Bence, but found Anderson in unstoppable form.

Brett did win a world crown this week when teaming up with Clair Johnston for mixed pairs success.
