Brett and fellow Huntingdon IBC man Lewis Baker were 20-9 winners against the Blackpool Newton Hall duo of John Dawes and Mark Dawes in the national showpiece at Melton Mowbray yesterday (Thursday). The duos were locked together at 9-9 after 10 ends, but the local men forged clear in the remainder of the contest. Brett previously won the title with Matt Marsden in 2004 and had Greg Harlow alongside him when successful in three consecutive years between 2011 and 2013. The Hawes were also runners-up when Brett won in 2012. While this was a first mens pairs crown for Baker, he is no stranger to major success after helping St Neots to a mens fours title back in 2015. Brett and Baker reached the final thanks to a 17-9 victory against the Moonfleet 2000 duo of Doug Rumble and Martin Puckett in the last four earlier on Thursday. They negotiated the last 16 and quarter-finals the previous day.
