Nicky Brett saw his dream of a second World Indoor Singles title dashed yesterday.

The Huntingdon IBC star - winner of the title in 2016 - suffered a second-round exit of the major tournament.

He was beaten 2-8 6-6 by Mervyn King at Hopton-on-Sea.

King was always in control of the opening set, but Brett stormed into a 6-1 lead after five ends of the second set.

But King battled back to within one shot before drawing a single in the final end to advance to the quarter-finals.

Defeat continued a frustrating couple of days for Brett, who suffered disappointment in the World Indoor Pairs final on Monday, when he and partner Greg Harlow were beaten by Jamie Chestney and Mark Dawes.
