HUNTINGDONSHIRE bowlers saw their fortunes change for the better with weekend wins in the Adams and Newton trophies.

Hosting North Essex at Sawtry in the Newton, Paul Payne and playing partners Dave Peak and Trevor Deighton put in the performance of the season to crush their opponents with a 54-13 shots victory.

It set the tone for the rest as Hunts ran away with the match, registering an emphatic 267-126 shots aggregate, and taking all 22 points.

Rinks skipped by Steve Baker, John McKee, Tony Perry and David Brace all bagged more than 40 shots apiece and a shell-shocked North Essex managed no more than 24 shots in any of the games.

Peter Reason and his colleagues were given the hardest task by their North Essex counterparts but still took the game 29-23.

In the Adams match played at Huntingdon BC, four of the six home rinks were beaten but Hunts still went home with a 14-8 points match haul.

The Tony Chapman trio fell to a 27-23 loss and John Hignett’s rink failed to reap any rewards in a 31-25 defeat. Sid Webb and partners failed to weave any magic and lost 26-22 and Keith Minnett’s team crashed 34-19.

Kevin Bowers, partnered by James Bowers and Derek Rose, turned the tide in the right direction with a 28-20 win, but Hunts were saved by John Waine and his rink.

Waine and his team of David Gould and Dave McCulloch racked up a 45-17 win that made all the difference, taking Hunts to an overall aggregate shots win of 162-155 to take the points win.
