An estimated 1,300 young footballers, representing 140 teams, were involved in 455 games, controlled by a team of 18 referees, as the annual Godmanchester Rovers Youth Tournament proved to be a roaring success again last weekend.
Sides from across Huntingdonshire and beyond descended on Jubilee Park in Huntingdon for two days of cracking competition across 11 categories.
There were a couple of local successes as Warboys ruled supreme in the Under 11 age bracket while Huntingdon Rowdies Green took the spoils in the Under 16 section.
New Peterborough United manager Grant McCann was on hand on Saturday when one of the club’s junior sides triumphed in the Under 10 bracket.
Next year’s staging of the tournament has already been pencilled in for the weekend of June 3 and 4, with entries being taken through www.gryfctournament.co.uk.
