The young talents of Hunts AC remain firmly on course for the East Anglian League grand final – after sampling success by the seaside last Sunday.
The club’s Under 13 Girls outfit claimed overall victory for the second successive event when seeing off strong competition from hosts Great Yarmouth and Norwich.
Lizzy Harrison claimed three individual ‘A’ string victories in the 100m, 200m and long jump before anchoring the 4-100m relay squad - also featuring Macy Taylor, Tamzin Digpal-Race and Daisy Coulson-Bascombe – glory. Their combined time of 55.8 seconds also provided a new club record.
Taylor also added individual victories in the ‘A’ string 70m hurdles and ‘B’ string 100m, while Coulson-Bascombe sped to 200m success in the ‘B’ event and Digpal-Race rose highest in the ‘A’ string high jump.
Willow Bedding (‘B’ string 70m hurdles) and Charlotte Smith (‘B’ string high jump) provided other successes for the club.
The Under 15 Boys remain top of the overall league standings after being pipped to victory on the day by Norwich.
Julian Priest was a double-winner in the ‘A’ string 100m and 200m. He equalled the club record in the former event and was only a tenth of a second outside his own Hunts AC best over the longer distance. He remains in the top five nationally for the 200m in his age group.
Joe Purbrick climbed into the top 25 of the national rankings for the 80m hurdles after an impressive victory and completed an ‘A’ string double by leaping to 1.40m in the high jump. Ayo Opaleye took ‘B’ honours by clearing the same height.
That trio then joined forces with Elliot Mortimer for 4-100m relay victory, while Thomas Smith provided another triumph in the ‘A’ string hammer.
The Under 15 Girls exceeded all expectations by finishing second in the team competition – despite lining up with a depleted team. Their sole ‘A’ string winner was Issy Wilkins, who took 1500m honours in emphatic style.
Three other new club records were set at the event. Moria Howard broke the Under 11 Girls long jump best, which had stood for 37 years, with a leap of 3.87m.
Tom Waterworth, in the Under 11 Boys 600m, and Andrea Linnell, in the Senior Women’s 100m, provided the other new entries in the record-books.
The next East Anglian League meet is at Cambridge on July 16.
