Huntingdon BRJ Run & Tri Club were well represented in the National Cross-Country Championships last Saturday.

A total of 15 club members took part in the big event at Parliament Hill in London, where they encountered tough underfoot conditions.

Dominic Pauley (13.41), Jeff Newham (14.34) and Layton Duffy (15.31) competed over 3km at Under 13 Boys level.

Cameron Smith clocked 19.19 and Keelan Duffy managed 19.24 (despite having to retrieve a lost shoe) in the Under 15 Boys test over 4.5km.

Another BRJ runner, William Dales, was beset by bad luck in the 6km race at Under 17 Men level. He also lost a shoe and twice fell before finishing in 25.57. Clubmates James Orrell (24.33) and Reece Millard (25.57) also took part.

Shelley Duffy lined up among more than 1100 entrants for the 8km ladies race and finished midway through the field in a time of 40.39. Fellow BRJ member Sarah Hall (representing Vegan Runners on the day) completed in 43.04.

Rob Farrant was the leading BRJ finisher in the men’s race, completing the 12km in 53.06. Andy Phillips (53.59), Russ Tuit (54.44), Neil Jarvis (57.36), Pete Newham (59.27) and Chirag Godhania (1:03.14) also featured among more the 2,200-strong field.

Dave Hudson delivered a devastating display to triumph in the Tarpley 20-mile race last Sunday.

He broke his own course record in the Suffolk event by more than two minutes with a time of 1:49.22 and finished a staggering 10 minutes clear of the runner-up.

BRJ also provided three age-group winners – Alice Synge (FV35, 2:40.24), Annette Newton (FV65, 2:57.02) and David Newton (MV65, 2:41.25).

Neil Jarvis, who had competed in the National Cross-Country Championships the previous day, summoned up enough energy to complete the 20 miles in 2:29.24 – improving his personal best for this distance by more than 14 minutes in the process.

Jane Roberts (2:57.02), Jo Muff (3:19.32) and Kate Ruddock (3:27.59) also took part – the latter continuing the club’s winning ways by being awarded a spot prize.
