Division One National STANJAY angler Duncan Ray claimed second place in this national competition, which was fished on the River Huntspill and Kings Sedgemoor Drain in Somerset. While some Huntingdonshire clubs decided not to enter, our Stanjay team opted to find out as much information as possible from this distance and send a team of keen anglers. After a memorable, incident-packed couple of days, there was much to celebrate with Duncan taking second place individually of the 630 anglers and the team finishing a satisfactory 32nd place - a vast improvement on last year's performance. Duncan caught 20.9kg of bream on the tip from his peg on the King Sedgemoor Drain - beaten only by Richard Latimer on an end peg next door to him for a day he will never forget. Teamwise, Ian Benton (seventh) and Paul Hendy (eighth) of their 63 peg sections and Dave Rawlins - who won his 12 peg 'mini-section' - also did exceptionally well with solid back-up points provided by other team members. The team event was won by Starlets, with the RAF team containing several local anglers, finishing seventh. HAJAC teams of Four THE Ouse in Dolphin Meadow was running very hard and rising, but still fished well with bream caught throughout the stretch and an incredibly close team match the result with nine points covering the nine teams. It was Stanjay White, Ian Benton, Tony Hayden, David Saunders and Phil Chesterton who won by just one point from St Ives B - with two of the other Stanjay teams one further point back. The top three weights individually came from the town end of the meadow, with Anthony Watling catching 30lb 14oz of bream to win the match from Tony McGregor and Dale Stones.
