THE third round of the King of the Fens league was fished on Sunday on the wide Welland near Spalding.

On a cool day for July, with the colour dropping out of the water, weights were patchy but the match was won by Mark Pollard, fishing for Fox Match Stanjay from the end peg with 12lb 3oz of skimmers on pinkie with March's Jon Young in second.

Team-wise, it was the closest match yet with every point counting and only four points covering the top four teams on the day. Winners on the day were the Bourn A team, with Wades second, Van Den Eynde in third and our Stanjay team in fourth - just enough to stay on top of the league by one point with two rounds to go.

Stanjay's Hans Schunmann recorded another section second to go into a clear lead in the individual competition.

Cromwell Lake Wednesday Series

RICKY Ashwell followed his win in the Saturday Series final with three more match wins, adding victories last Wednesday and Saturday to his tally.

On Wednesday he caught 25lb 15oz of carp, bream and tench from peg seven to finish in front of his father Steve and Terry Allgood.

The final match of this year's series takes place this Wednesday with Brian Gibson in an unbeatable first place, although there is very close competition between Ricky and Steve Ashwell and Stan for the minor positions.

RICKY Ashwell was fishing on in-form peg nine and weighed in 39lb 10oz on Saturday in round two of the Little and Large Series. Stan was second with 30lb 1oz and Terry Allgood had the top small fish weight.

THE weights were low in Thursday's evening match with Paul Kilby making the most of his end peg draw.

THURSDAY'S Coote Cup match in A section saw catching very difficult, with Colin Leach winning the match with 5lb 12oz.

Sunday's club match at Meadow Lane was won by John Malin with a good small fish weight of 7lb 4oz from Tony McGregor and Paul Ashcroft.

Grahams Pond

SUNDAY'S three-team match between the Golden Knight, Spitfires B and the Kings Arms was fished with a strong swirling wind.

The Spitfires team got off to the best start and appeared to be ahead until very late in the match. It was not until the last Kings Arms angler weighed in that they moved into a lead.

RESULT: Kings Arms A 17lb 2oz; Spitfires B 14lb 8oz; Golden Knight A 5lb 3oz.

Tony Watling won his third consecutive Saturday Open with 8lb 4oz. Pat Magallones was second and Daniel de Grussa came third.

Lawn Farm

PATRICIA Chapman from Godmanchester fished her first-ever match in last Tuesday's Golden Rod competition and finished in second place with 27lb 14oz. The winner, Bob Newman from Melbourn, was only just ahead of her with 31lb.
