The first match in this year's Christmas series was fished on Sunday with 33 competitors present. Browning Hotrods' Andy Leathers was disappointed to draw in the Wides but made the most of his peg, catching eight tench fishing at 17 metres for 29lb 1oz.

Jon Hazelden was a noisy second with 19lb 3oz ahead of Dale Stones. Another Hotrods angler, Tim Nash, was fourth including a tench in his 14lb 12oz from peg 28.

Encouragingly, the end section was won by Steve Gordon from peg 33.

Stanjay Saturday Open

Stan drew the golden peg, peg 20 and caught 8lb 4oz which included a couple of good perch. He remained in the lead until the final angler, Steve Roslyn, who had been fishing on peg 15, weighed in 10lb 6oz. He also caught two perch of 2lb 10oz and 2lb. Jason Roslyn was third with 4lb 3oz.

Cromwell Lake

There was a close finish between Graham (Gooddraw) Goodwin and John Pratt at Cromwell on Saturday with Graham's 13lb 3oz the winning weight. John Pratt had the consolation of winning the small fish prize with 5lb 6oz.

RESULT: 1 Graham Goodwin Brampton AS 13lb 11oz, 2 John Pratt Gt Paxton 11lb 14oz, 3 Dave Silsby Brampton 7lb 1oz

Ramsey AS

The members only Christmas match was fished at Factory Bank and provided a fantastic day's fishing for all 15 anglers present. The total weight was 155lb 9oz averaging over 10lb a man. Pegs at the two ends were the place to be, with Malcolm Sansome winning from the far end peg. Pete Kirlew was second and Paul Kilby third with less than a pound and a half covering the top four anglers. Ironically Vern Edgley, drawn on the golden peg, weighed in the lowest weight, a respectable 5lb 9oz. All the weights were of small fish, apart from Tudor Steels who found two tench and a perch to finish fifth.

RESULT: 1 Malcolm Sansome 14lb 11oz, 2 Pete Kirlew 14lb 7oz, 3 Paul Kilby 13lb 15oz, 4 Jon Steels 13lb 6oz

St Ives AC

St Ives' annual Christmas match was fished on Sunday in the Pike and Eel marina. On a frosty morning, Colin Leach's special sloe gin was a welcome start to the day and there were plenty of fish to be caught despite competition from a seal, which gave Ray Myring the shock of his life. The match was won by Tony McGregor with a mixture of roach, perch, bleak and the odd skimmer for 15lb 6oz. Second place was close with Paul Ashcroft just four ounces in front of Chris Geeson. then Colin Leach fourth.

RESULT: 1 Tony McGregor 15lb 6oz, 2 Paul Ashcroft 12lb 10oz, 3 Chris Geeson 12lb 6oz, 4 Colin Leach 11lb 10oz
