Tommy ‘Da Gun’ Martin is ready to take on whoever is “chucked” in front of him tonight when he fights for the sixth time as a professional boxer.

Martin has an unblemished five wins out of five fights record and will top the bill at Stevenage Arts & Leisure – but still doesn’t know who he will be stepping into the ring with.

Talking to The Hunts Post from his Trad TKO base in Bethnal Green, while taking a break from training, the 19-year-old said: “I’m told it will be an undefeated Stevenage boy but he might not accept the fight. They will have someone lined up if not – but I really want to be fighting undefeated boxers now. Saying that, I will fight whoever they chuck in front of me.”

Martin is expecting more than 200 of his ‘Team Gun’ fans to turn out for the show with the 6.03pm train from St Neots to Stevenage set to turn into the Team Gun Express.

“It’s perfect,” he said. “It’s almost door to door with the venue right next to the train station in Stevenage. My fans will be up for a good night out. I’m in the best shape of my life and believe that I am at the best gym in the world at Johnny Eames’s. “I have had some world class sparring partners for this one with champions Colin Lines and Darren Hamilton at the gym. Things are going really well and if I win this one I will have some big news with a big bill in front of me.”

This is the first time that the former St Ives Boxing Club fighter, who only turned professional last year, will top a bill. But Martin is convinced it won’t be the last. The boxer is nothing if not full of confidence and looks to have a great future in the sport if he continues to impress those working with him.

His last fight was in October at York Hall in Bethnal Green and against his toughest opponent yet, Ibrar Riyaz, he breezed through to take the judges’ decision.

He has also signed a big sponsorship deal with Junction 17 Cars of Peterborough and they have been funding his training and travelling.

Professional boxing is a business, of course – and Martin always wants to thank his sponsors in interviews. But with so much achieved in just one year, how long will it be before his sponsors are thanking him for putting their names on the map instead?
