St Neots man Lee Adamson has been appointed new rugby development officer for the Eastern Counties.
Adamson, 49, took up his post last week overseeing the development of the game in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
He is a former sergeant in the Metropolitan police and made more than 500 first-team appearances for Wasps and Saracens, where he is currently club president.
Adamson said: "The focus for me is to increase participation throughout the region in terms of players as well as administrators and volunteers.
"We promote the game in schools and colleges through the development of players and coaches - as well as the development of clubs."
RFU rugby development manager Rob Drinkwater said: "It was a real coup for us to get someone with Lee's experience and expertise in the post.
