STUDENTS at Abbey College, Ramsey, played host to a group of South African students as part of a cultural link-up - and took part in a two-sport challenge. The 21 students from Reddam House School in Cape Town stayed with local families and played the Abbey students at both cricket and football. The visit was arranged by Abbey College head of Year 11 Frank Nieuwoudt, whose brother Barry is a teacher at a school in Cape Town. Barry said: "The idea of the trip was for our students was to experience cultural exchange as well as to play sport. It has been a fantastic experience to play under different conditions and we have had a wonderfully warm welcome. "We are hopeful that this is just the start of sporting and cultural links between the two schools." The cricket and football matches were keenly competed with honours ending up even between the two schools. Reddam House won the cricket match scoring 200 and dismissing Abbey College for 103. Abbey College then took the football match the following day with a 6-3 win.
