A small contingent of swimmers from St Ives competed at the Fenland Open Meet at Whittlesey on Sunday, May 26 and came home with a surfeit of medals for their endeavours.

There were some great swims with a multitude of top six placings from: Orla Setchell, Matilda Spink, Barney Edwards, Ross Burdett, Miles Cannon, Soufian AbdelRazek, Maya New, Sophie Savage, Freddy Wrench, Adam Saczawa, Lauren Bailey, Elizabeth Ballester, Jack Ballester, Naomi Sutters and Thomas Jennings which helps to pave the way for the third round of the Junior Fenland League on June 8 in St Ives.

Following on from that, Chloe Butler, from Godmanchester,  qualified for the 200 metres breaststroke event at the Great Britain Summer Swimming Championships at the end of July and for the English Swimming Championships.

St Ives Team mate Tessa Quayle, from Brampton, has also qualified for the English Swimming Champs for the 50 and 100 breaststroke events too, both to be held at Ponds Forge Olympic Pool Sheffield.

"Excellent work and motivation by all the athletes from beginners to elite level," said coach Andy Hunter.
