First Team Match Report on Saturday, March 16, UCL Premier Division South

Aylestone Park 3 - Eynesbury Rovers 0

Eynesbury Rovers faced a tough challenge at second placed Aylestone Park and held their hosts to a goal less draw at the break.

However, three goals in seven minutes early in the second half put paid to any idea that Eynesbury harboured for a shock result.

Billy Kee started the blitz as he latched on to a through ball and lofted it over Reece Lewis in the 56th minute. Before the game could restart Kee was replaced with Matt Langham and within four minutes of coming on he made it 2-0 with a close range tap in. It didn’t stop there for the substitute as he scored in similar fashion again in the 62nd minute.

It could have been a different story for Eynesbury had they taken their first half chances in a 45 minute period in which they more than matched their hosts.

They created an opening straight from the kick off and Dylan Surace saw his shot tipped behind for a corner by Josh Wormleighton. From the flag kick Adrian O’Hara sent his header onto the roof of the net.

Later another Surace effort was cleared whilst Jonny Hall struck a 20 yard free kick against the defensive wall and Max Kimpton couldn’t quite connect cleanly with his header. Surace set up Marcel Rzeszutek but his shot was saved by the hosts’ goalkeeper.

Aylestone also created chances but Justin Peace and Corey Bucalossi were off target with their efforts and after several chances were missed from a corner Sam Hollis’ low drive was saved by the feet of Lewis.

After the hosts went 2-0 up Rovers had a chance to pull a goal back but Surace headed Kimpton’s cross straight at Wormleighton.

There were very few opportunities once Aylestone were 3-0 ahead with Hollis shooting inches wide for the hosts and the last action being a Rovers free kick on the edge of the area, after debutant Dimagio Robinson had been tripped, but Owen Dixon shot wide of goal.

Despite this loss Rovers remain 17th in the table but it is very close in the battle to avoid the drop.

Eynesbury, Desborough Town and Godmanchester Rovers all have 20 points with Leicester Nirvana bottom with 19 points. Rovers’ goal difference is -35 whilst the other three clubs are locked on -37. Eynesbury and Leicester have played 30 matches whilst Desborough have played 32 and Godmanchester 28.

Next up Eynesbury host Newport Pagnell on Tuesday, March 19, kick-off 7.45pm. This is followed by a crucial home match against Desborough on Saturday, March 23, kick-off 3pm.
