First Team Match Report: Eynesbury Rovers 2 - Coventry United 3 in UCL Premier Division South.

Just seven days after meeting in Coventry, Rovers hosted the return fixture looking for revenge after their 4-2 loss last week.

They put themselves on course taking a 2-0 lead in the opening 24 minutes. However, Coventry pulled a goal back before the break and equalised early in the second half.

As the game was coming to an end the point that Eynesbury would have settled for was snatched away by a stunning long range strike by Harry Wilson and the visitors took the points.

Eynesbury took a ninth minute lead as Billy Roberts scored his first goal for the club, heading home an Owen Dixon corner at the back post.

After Dixon himself had a looping header saved and Joe Blowers fired into the side netting for Coventry Rovers doubled their advantage. Chris Khoo found Joe Worboys with his pass and despite having the attention of two defenders he got his shot away from 18 yards and beat Harvey Randle in the Coventry goal.

However, five minutes later Dan Cassidy scored for United with a shot after Rovers had given the ball away cheaply. On the stroke of half time James Hall’s effort was tipped over the bar by Randle.

Just eight minutes into the second half the visitors drew level. Joe Blowers set up Cassidy to score his second goal from close range. He could have claimed his hat-trick but shot over from the edge of the box on the hour mark. Later the striker was cautioned and then substituted.

A minute after replacing Joe Worboys Henry Silver was involved in the action and his effort had to be tipped over the bar by Harvey Randle. Adrian O’Hara tried his luck with a long range strike but it was off target before Wilson’s long range shot sped past Reece Lewis in the 88th minute.

Rovers created one more chance but O’Hara’s downward header from a corner kick was held at the second attempt by the Coventry goalkeeper.

Next up for Rovers is a trip to Bugbrooke St. Michaels on Saturday, February 3. Kick-off is 3pm. Rovers go in search of league points having dropped to 18th place.
