St Neots RUFC Colts claimed a victory in the opening fixture of their league campaign in a close away game against Biggleswade.

The Saints left it till the last minute of the match to score the winning try when a well-worked passing move was finished off by Luke Miles breaking through the Biggleswade rear guard, with Adam Watling converting to leave the final score 14-8.

St Neots had started the game quickly when Harvey Whitfield ran in a try from distance almost straight from the referee's opening whistle and an Adam Watling conversion gave them the earliest of leads.

The first half then became a fiercely contested affair with St Neots coming closest to increasing their lead on a number of occasions, including a powerful drive by Patrick Carpenter held up inches from the line by a resilient Biggies defence.

And it was the home side that went into half-time just two points behind after they scored the next try against the run of play shortly before the break.

The second half continued in the same way as the first with some good rugby played by both sides.

It was Biggleswade that took an 8-7 lead after they scored a penalty with 20 mins left and they nearly held on to that slender lead until the final play of the game saw the Saints score to take the win.
