St Ives Rugby Club have reached the final of the Huntingdonshire and Peterborough County Rugby Union Cup after convincingly beating Deepings RUFC 58-7 in the semi-final.

A dogged Deepings side did their best to repel an irresistible Bulls performance but could not withstand the constant pressure as the hosts ran in 10 well-taken tries.

Coach Paul Humphreys said: "Credit to Deepings, they came and wanted to play. They never went away and caused us problems all day.

"It was pleasing to see how we blended in attack, at times putting some very good phases together with slick passing and good line speed."

Number eight Michael Sykes and Ollie Bartlett got the Bulls off to the perfect start with two early converted scores, with the always-dangerous Albiee Tayedzerwa dotting down a third to make it 19-0.

Deepings went the length of the pitch to reduce the deficit to 19-7, but three further unconverted tries made the score 34-7 at halftime.

The second half was more subdued as Deepings fought hard to stay in the game, but as the half wore on, Deepings tired, and St Ives ran in four more tries.

Albiee added a fourth try to his three first-half scores, Bartlett grabbed a double, and the impressive Tom Woodrow grabbed a deserved try before Ben Fleming finished off the scoring in a dominant display.

Facing off against St Ives in the final will be Peterborough RUFC's second team, with a date yet to be confirmed.
