St Neots Town’s poor record against high-flying Stamford continued after a 4-0 defeat to the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands leaders.

The visitors had no answers when their hosts, who took the lead through Jonathan Margetts’ 16th-minute strike, scored three more times after half-time on April 1.

Goalkeeper Jonah Gill saved well from Jack Duffy in the first half but could not deny the Stamford forward from tapping in from five yards out.

James Blunden powerfully headed past Gill for 3-0, and the St Neots shot-stopper was forced into a fine full length save to stop Harry Vince.

Margetts then grabbed his second goal of the game from the penalty spot after Trey Charles fouled substitute Isaac Currie.

Panny Boxer and Albert Adu tried to respond for the away side, but Stamford, who had lost one of nine meetings with St Neots since 1994, maintained a clean sheet.

St Neots welcome Halesowen Town to the Premier Plus Stadium on April 8, 3pm, ahead of a trip to Cambridge City on Easter Monday, also 3pm.
