Dean Greygoose fears his Godmanchester Rovers side are in danger of “chucking games in hand away” as their push for a top half spot was stalled following a frustrating draw.

Rovers fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against strugglers Cogenhoe United on January 28, stretching their run to five of their last seven United Counties League Premier Division South games without a win.

“If we’re not careful, we’re going to chuck our games in hand away,” said Rovers boss Greygoose.

“I don’t think we had control over the game like we usually do; their goalkeeper made three worldie saves but it was too open.

“We’re a very good footballing team, but we didn’t show it on Saturday.”

Top scorer Matty Allan notched his 19th goal in all competitions in the first half after Pharrell Anderson’s delicate chip handed Cogenhoe an eighth-minute lead.

It is Rovers’ fifth league draw of the campaign, and still have games in hand over those above them as they continue to push for a top half spot.

The match, played at St Ives Town’s Quattro-Tech Westwood Road ground which has an artificial pitch, was a fierce battle but Greygoose feels his team can play much better.

“I felt we didn’t quite get the final pass or cross off enough,” he admitted.

“I think the biggest thing is we don’t start very well.

“We’ve done well in the cups this year, but we need to show that in the league and be more ruthless.”

After a clash with March Town at the David Wilson Homes Ground on January 31, 7.45pm, Rovers visit league leaders Rugby Town on February 4, 2pm.
