A promising 15-year-old St Ives Cycling Club (SICC) rider is "over the moon" with his first podium finish competing in the Cyclo-Cross League.

Charlie Coad-Bell had to tussle with some challenging conditions and a strong field of 12 other U16 competitors on his way to a terrific third-place finish.

A spokesperson for SICC said: "He's over the moon. It was a cold frosty slippery start which saw a few fall-offs by riders, but he remained focused."

Charlie was competing in Round 10 of the Eastern Cyclo-Cross League at Haughley Park on the Stow Scramble course and bettered his previous best sixth-place finish, ending up only 37 seconds behind the winner.

Other SICC riders also raced at the competition, achieving some equally impressive results whilst racing in different age categories.

Andrew Fountain was racing in the males age 50-59 race and finished 23rd place out of 70 other competitors, beating 68 per cent of the field.

Ian Megginson finished behind Andrew in 31st position trailing by one minute and six seconds.

Richard Hall was also in action in the 18-plus race, finishing 23rd out of 34 racers.

In a cyclo-cross race, riders race across several different terrains and, at parts, must dismount their bikes and carry them over obstacles.
