A severe cold weather snap before Christmas stopped nearly all anglers for a week or two, except some who braved a session on the River Ouse.

Adam and Mickey Bartlett of St Ives Tackle went to the River Ouse at Buckden to fish for pike in minus five conditions and were rewarded with a pike from a backwater.

A fresh float fished roach became the successful tactic that day.

Then in milder conditions, Mickey ventured onto a gravel pit after Christmas, landing eight pike to more than 16lbs including three other doubles.

All fish fell for a mixture of legered bluey heads, roach and lamprey sections.
