HUNTINGDON Town were stunned by a second half comeback by Northampton ON Chenecks as they lost at Jubilee Park on Saturday.

Struggling Town went ahead after 38 minutes when Paul Bass fired home, and they went in with a slender lead at the interval.

Louis Pilgrim drew Chenecks level eight minutes into the second half, and Nathan Cook gave them the lead after 68 minutes. The visitors' win was confirmed three minutes later when Pilgrim scored again to consolidate Huntingdon's troubles.

Huntingdon Town manager Martyn Ray said: "The first half was the best football we have played for months. We got the ball going, worked hard, played really well and didn't really let them have a shot.

"Then in the second half it was back to usual and we conceded two really sloppy goals which was very disappointing. A lot of our players weren't doing their jobs or what I told them, they went surging forward and then were punished on the break.

"We are down to the bare bones with the squad but hopefully we can start winning again soon. There's not a lot of difference between the teams at the top and the teams at the bottom but when you're at the top you have the luck and score your chances but when you're at the bottom they hit the post."

Huntingdon Town currently languish 15th in the league, still rooted in the relegation places but just one point off safety with nine games remaining. They have won just one of their last 11 games and have lost the last three.

Their next game is a must-win encounter for both teams at Burton Park Wanderers on Saturday, who are just one point and one place above them. A win would take Town out of the relegation zone, but defeat would send them up to four points adrift of safety.
