NATIONAL quarter-finals are on the agenda for Huntingdon Indoor Bowls Club ladies after a nail-biting three-shot win in the Mason Cup against Northampton B.

The two rinks from Huntingdon travelled to Northampton expecting a close game and after Margaret Elstub's rink had suffered a 15-17 shot reversal, a place in the next round looked unlikely.

But the second rink, led by Cathy Snitch, held their nerve to record a solid 24-19 win to book a place for Huntingdon in the next round.

Last week also saw the ladies in action in the County League.

They carried on their good form against Peterborough, though they suffered two home rink defeats.

The rinks playing at St Peter's Road, skipped by Margaret Elstub and Pat Purssord, missed out 20-22 and 19-20 respectively in games that could have gone either way.

The two away rinks needed something special at Peterborough IBC, and skip Nicky Verlander and her team obliged with an 18-18 tie. It was the rink skipped by Daphne Cooper that saved the day, with a 30-19 trouncing in which they were seldom in trouble.

The win keeps Hunts IBC Ladies sitting in second place in the County League.
