GORDON Oscroft and Alister Gray took first place in the Slow Fleet at the Wednesday night Summer series at the Grafham Water Sailing Club.

They guided their Wayfarer Class boat home with more than 30 seconds to spare over the fast-finishing Phil Bevan in his Laser, to retain their class lead in the series.

Only eight Medium Fleet craft took to the water but racing could not have been closer. Bob Gatten and John Forsdike made it home first, ahead of series leaders Dave and Jenny Philpott. Both crews were in Flying Fifteen boats in a race that saw the first four boats covered by just 52 seconds.

The Fast Fleet was plain sailing all the way for Alisdair James who streaked away to an easy win.

Ninety seconds of clear water separated him from the boat crewed by Dave Goudie in second place, as James Carrier held on to the Fast Fleet class lead.
