THE country’s fastest-growing sport could find a regular home in St Neots.

Triathletes Keith Ritchie and Mick Lawrence are planning a series of four new triathlon events to be held in the town next summer.

Three of the events will be sprint races – involving a 750-metre river swim, 12-mile cycle and 3.2-mile run – which are ideal for newcomers to the sport and experienced competitors alike.

The other will be over the Olympic distance, and take in a 1,500-metre swim, 25-mile swim and 6.2-mile run.

Ritchie said the Sunday morning series would begin with sprint events in May and June 2011, with the Olympic distance event in July, and the final sprint event in August.

“We’re hoping that the people of St Neots will be enthusiastic about these new events and that it will encourage people to discover the sport,” he said.

“However, organising events like these takes a lot of time, resource and money. We’re looking for as many people to get involved in whatever way they can, from sponsors through to marshals on the day.”
