FIVE members from the Huntingdon BRJ Road Running Club took on – and beat – the Outlaw Ironman on Sunday.

At the event in Nottingham, competing Outlaws swap their horses for bikes in the world’s toughest one-day endurance challenge.

Gill Peck, John Wright, Andy Matson, Phil Pearsons and Ryan Woolf completed a punishing course starting with a 2.4-mile swim at Holme Pierrepoint lake, then a 112-mile cycle through Sherwood Forest and finishing with the small matter of a full 26.2-mile marathon around the city. The event was restricted to just 1,000 entrants. It started at the National Water Sports Centre and finished at the Victoria Embankment.

Wright was the first home of the BRJ Outlaws, finishing the course in 12hours 25mins. He was more than an hour clear of his nearest team-mate Woolf, who came through in 13hrs 33mins. Peck finished in 13hrs 38mins, Matson in 13hrs 40mins and Pearsons in 14hrs 13mins.

n BRJ Road Running Club member Darren Preston came home in 33rd position at the Newark Half-Marathon on Sunday. Preston clocked a time of 1hr 23mins 18secs.
