HUNTINGDONSHIRE re-ignited their interest in the National Eversley Trophy with a hard won shots victory against Norfolk.
Having already beaten favourites Northants and lost to Lincolnshire in the five team mini-league this year, defeat would have ended Huntingdonshire’s chances of reaching the knock-out stages.
On Sunday at Roundwood, Norwich, things looked bleak for the visitors as the home side opened up a 12-shot margin after 15 ends.
They cut the margin to nine shots after 20 ends, but in a storming last five ends Hunts took 26-9 shots across the four rinks to snatch an incredible win.
Geoff Barlow’s rink were beaten by four shots after a close tussle, and Steve Baker skipped his rink from 20 shots down to lose by just seven.
Mick Verlander led Alex Snitch and the evergreen 87-year-old Jim Hatton in a superb comeback, trailing by nine with 10 ends to go, they got within two at the close.
The performance of the day came from Brian Brett, Barry Deller and Derek Rose who pulled away from the home rink from the start. Giving little away they marched to a 32-13 win, securing Huntingdonshire a 93-87 shot match win.
