UCL Cup
St Ives Town 2-0 Deeping Rangers
CONNOR Washington scored both goals on a subdued night at Westwood Road, as St Ives progressed to the semi-final of the UCL Cup.
A crowd of 431 turned out for a minute’s applause in memory of two young footballers, Harry Williams and Darryl Townsend, who died in a car crash at the weekend.
The Saints will face rivals St Neots Town in the semi-final after extending their unbeaten run at home to 12 games.
Washington got the ball rolling in the sixth minute, as he combined with Scott Fielding, burst through the defence and rounded the keeper to give his team the lead.
Niall Conroy-Owen had to save well from Deeping’s Ryan Lomas, and Washington went close twice more before half time.
As the game approached the hour mark, Washington doubled Ives’ lead, as Fielding’s throughball was dispatched emphatically past visiting keeper Aaron Botcher.
