UNPREDICTABLE Eynesbury were defeated 3-0 by Division One leaders Thrapston at Hall Road on Saturday in what was their first match for three weeks.

Scott Kingsbury cleared off the line to deny Jamie Russell an early goal for the visitors, while Rovers had their chance to hit the front on the half hour when Thrapston keeper Chris Jones brought down Ross West inside the box.

However the custodian redeemed himself by saving Gavin Batt’s spot kick.

Top scorer Cavell Jarvis then gave the visitors a 37th minute lead from the penalty spot after Mike Houghton was fouled by Kingsbury.

Ben Morgan increased the advantage after 47 minutes, converting Russell’s pass from a tight angle, and Thrapston’s success was sealed after 69 minutes by Jarvis’ second goal of the afternoon - a close range finish from a corner - after a David Coales header had been parried.

Matt Plumb’s side, who are currently seventh in the table, are due back in action at home against ninth-placed Bourne tonight (Tuesday).

On Saturday, Rovers go to third-placed Olney Town and will be looking to bring to an end their run of six league games without a win.
