UCL Premier Division
St Ives Town 4-3 Desborough Town
ST IVES Town withstood a second-half Desborough revival to take three points at Westwood Road last night (Tuesday).
Ives seemingly had the match won when they went in 4-0 up at the break, but were nearly made to pay as Desborough netted three times in five minutes to set home nerves jangling.
Conor Washington had given Saints an eighth-minute lead, converting a David Cobb through ball. Cobb added a second himself from the spot on 27 minutes, after Washington was fouled.
Seven minutes later Ricky Dear made it three from close range, and Washington nodded in the fourth from Cobb’s corner on 37 minutes.
The score remained 4-0 until the 76th minute, when a Danny Rogers penalty gave Desborough some hope. Darren Wheeler pulled another back on 80 minutes, tapping in after Niall Conroy-Owen had saved his first effort.
Wheeler got his second a minute later to make it 4-3, but St Ives clung on to the final whistle.
nIn other UCL Premier action, King’s Lynn Town won the first of their three games in hand on leaders St Neots Town, beating Long Buckby 1-0 at The Walks.
The crucial goal came after just 52 seconds, as Chris Bacon scrambled home a Jamie Thurlbourne cross.
Lynn avenged their defeat to Buckby by the same score on the first day of the season, and face St Neots at home on Saturday.
The third league game of the evening saw Boston Town win 1-0 at home to Peterborough Northern Star thanks to a 34th-minute Alex Beck goal.
